Copacabana: Alti Plano and Titicaca Lake

We decided to go for a short two day visit to Copacabana as we heard it was possible to fly over the Titicaca lake. The views of the altiplano on the way were breathtaking.

Copacabana is a small touristic city on the shore of the Titicaca lake it is mainly known for its access to the Sun and Moon islands and its massive 16th century basilic "Basilica of Our Lady of Copacabana".
The basilic
The town has a very relaxed atmosphere, a good place to settle for a few days and discover the peninsula.
We found a super nice place to stay, witha lake view and a double room for a very good price, I put the link here and recommend it in case you pass by Copacabana ( HOTEL ).

View from the hotel
On the first morning we climbed up the nearby mountain to fly. But as we got to the top we understood it was way to windy.

On take off with a good view over Copacabana
We decided to go for a hike on the nearby mountains to try to find a soarable spot but the rocky ground and the strong wind gusts defeated our ambition to fly.

We consoled ourselves with the traditional market food, as alway good and economic, and full of colours...

Copacabana's market
By chance Diego from Andes Extremo (the flying company from La Paz) was there on the same day to discuss the opportunity to open a flying school in Copacabana. This was great as he took us to the new flying site he want to use for this school. A beautiful place at about 15km from the town.

Going to the take off
We had a short but beautiful flight in fromnt of the Titicaca lake with a view over the Cordillera Real, a treat!

Geo achieved one of his most interesting stunts avoiding a water landing by almost nothing. The wing and trousers just a little wet :) .

The Cordillera Real
Drying the kit :)
Thanks to Diego for taking us to this new spot!!

The next day we managed a little flight from the classic spot near town. Not very intertesting on a technical point of view, but still a nice walk up and some good views over Copacabana, even got a little morning swim in the lake as a reward.

We had time for a repack session for Geo's parachute that needed it after all the abuse from the sand dunes of Paracas and the water from the lake.
